We all know how to wash dishes by hand, but if you have a dishwasher, you want that appliance to do its job, and to do it well.  Hand-washing dishes works, but it takes time and may not sanitize the dishes the way that your dishwasher can–if it’s working properly.  

Sometimes the decision to replace the dishwasher is easy to make.  You know yours is old and there are newer models with fancier options that sound interesting.  (If you do decide to replace, make sure your plates are not too tall!)

Before you call to schedule your dishwasher repair, it is helpful if you can check the following:

• What brand is it? (e.g., Whirlpool, KitchenAid, Frigidaire)
• Try to locate the model and serial number tag
• Is it cleaning poorly?  Leaving film, grit, or food particles on the dishes?
• Is the appliance getting water?
• Does it drain completely at the end of the cycle?
• Are there any spoons, forks, or other items that may have fallen into the bottom?
• Is it completely dead or can you hear the motor running at some point during the cycle?
• If the dishwasher has a digital display, does it show any error codes?
• Can you manually make it move to the next cycle?
